Scriptural Prayers for Unbelievers

Scriptural Prayers for Unbelievers

Praying for the salvation of your friends and family is the best way you can pray for them!

1 Timothy 2:4

4 Who is willing to have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth which is in Christ Jesus, who is the Only Begotten Son of God, and ordained to be a Mediator between God and man; who is one God, and hath power over all men.

This scripture tells us that “God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Here are ten ways to pray for your unbelieving friends and family members based on Scripture.

1) Pray that God would open their hearts to believe the Gospel.

“The Lord opened her [Lydia’s] heart to respond to Paul’s message.”

Acts 16:14   And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us; whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.

2) Pray that God would open their spiritual eyes and remove spiritual blindness so they can believe the Gospel.

“…open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God.”

Acts 26:18   To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

3) Pray that all deception (personal belief system , philosophies, or logic that contradicts God’s word) will be overcome.

2 Corinthians 4:4

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

4) Pray that you or someone can share the logic of the gospel in such a clear and powerful way that it overcomes the unbeliever’s personal logic or belief system.

Ephesians 6:18-19    18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel

5) Pray that their mental strongholds will be demolished.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5   4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

6) Pray that God would free them from the slavery to sin.

Romans 6:17-18  17 But God be thanked, that ye are not the servants of sin, for ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

7) Pray that God would extend His gift of grace to them.

Ephesians 2:8-9   8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; but it is the gift of God; 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

8) Pray for a revelation of Jesus.

John 14:6  6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

9) Pray they come to understand God’s love for them.

Psalm 36:5  5 O Lord, thou art in the heavens; they are full of thy mercy. And the thoughts of a righteous man ascendeth up unto thee whose throne is far above the clouds.

10) Pray they encounter other Christ-followers who can influence them toward salvation.

1 Corinthians 3:6   6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
